I have the honour to forward to you herewith cop-
ies of despatches from His Lajesty's Consul General at
Canton and of correspondence with the Tai Chino Pu
relative to the piratical attack on the hinese owod
Steamship "Tai On" flying the British Flag at the
entrance of the Test River on April 27 last.
In the middle of March the Norwegian Stomer
*Childar" was pirated under somewhat similar circu-
stances in Bias Bay, bast of longkong; and, being char-
ged with Norwegian interests in China, I unde serious
representations to the Chinese Government on the sub-
